The Dependency on the Web

As I was sitting at my computer, surfing the net and eating my yummy, puffy, hot cheetoes, I realized how much people depend on the web. No, I'm not talking about homework, because we all depend on that. Without it, I'm sure we'd be like ... aliens. But we use it to ... to get the scoop on other people's lives!

I mean think about it. You're surfin Facebook or Myspace. Then you see George's STATUS and he's now SINGLE! "Oh my gosh! He's single?! They broke up?!" "Yeah, I saw it on facebook." From there, your personal life gets passed around from person to person, even to the people who don't give a shit. Now, I'm not saying those that put "In a Relationship" to "Single" every other month are sluts, or opening up their lives when they're not supposed to. It's the person's choice. What do I care? But sometimes I just wonder why the hell people care so much to put their lives in front of not only their friends, but their aquaintances.

But I did an experiment to find out how long it'd take to get people to start talking.

In the beginning of January I changed my "Married" status on MySpace to "Single." (By the way, people. I had "Married" since Freshman year. Not because I was obsessed with my boyfriend or that I wanted to marry him, but because I was married to my HUBBY POPULAR, CUTUM! haha bet you never knew that!) Anyways, so the next day, Jenny comes up to me and goes "Are you and Tinh okay? You're still with him right?" I laughed. I mean cause it's funny. And I really didn't break up with my boyfriend.

In conclusion, I can say, the dependency for gossip to happen lies right in front of you this moment. Go surf the net and see what you can find. Don't forget to go to TMZ.com or PEREZHILTON.com to get the scoop on celebrities. Gossip can ALWAYS make an awkward moment better. Remember that the next time you have an awkward moment. :)
